Abstract

The oncogene expression is one of the factors which have shown significant prognostic importance in the management of breast cancer. Among them, overexpression of p53, EGFR, c-erbB-2 are associated with poor prognosis. We have analysed the levels
of
p53, EGFR, c-erbB-2 expressions in 44 primary breast cancer specimens by immunohistochemical method, and identified the relation with the established prognostic factors for breast cancer: age, stage, lymph node status, histologic grade.
There was no correlation between age and p53, EGFR, c-erbB-2 was overexpressed in 17/44 cancers(38.6%) and EGFR in 13/44(29.5%) and c-erbB-2 in 36/44(81.8%). p53 was correlated with, grade. EGFR was found to be correlated with stage, lymph node
status
but not with grade of malignancy. c-erbB-2 was correlated with grade but not with stage and lymph node status.
